Andrea Croskery Scholarship

The deadline for submissions for the annual Andrea Croskery Smiles and Frowns Playhouse scholarship is rapidly approaching. The scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior who has participated in at least three Smiles and Frowns Playhouse productions and is planning to continue his or her education. The completed application and accompanying documents must be delivered or postmarked by January 31st. The winner of the award will be announced in March. Refer to the application packet for the necessary forms and other documents. Good luck to all our seniors!!

And the actors are......

The cast has been chosen! Thank you to everyone who tried out. It was not easy making the choices.
Emails will be sent later this evening with a link to the Doodle poll to accept the role. All parents also need to indicate they understand there is a meeting for all cast and parents on Monday, January 21st at 6:30pm. Additionally, the parents/guardians of children involved with Smiles and Frowns Playhouse for the first time need to attend New Parent Orientation on Thursday, January 17th at 7pm.
We are looking forward to another wonderful show!! Congratulations, everyone!

Auditions This Week!!

Auditions are tomorrow, January 8th and Wednesday, January 9th at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Building from 5 to 7pm.

Come with a picture of your child; a wallet-sized school picture is just fine.

Actors will be called in small groups to read scenes from the play together. If your child is a non-reader, have him or her come prepared to recite a short poem.

We're looking forward to a really fun production full of leprechauns, elves, fairies, good guys, bad guys, a contest, true love, lots of puns and even a bit of dancing.

Blather, Blarney and Balderdash Auditions

It's nearly time!! Auditions are next week, Tuesday, January 8th and Wednesday, January 9th. Come one of the nights between 5 and 7pm to the Arts and Recreation Building 4354 Lee St in Ayden. We're planning an Irish adventure with leprechauns, folk tales, a hero or two, a quest and some magical animals!! Come join the fun!

Tech Crew Applications

No show would ever work without the backstage crew and the hard workers who build, paint and create the sets and props. We'd love for your child to give technical theater a try! Check out the details in the Tech Information document. Also, check the mandatory attendance dates--the last two weeks of rehearsal are required for children on the running crew. Complete the Tech Application Form and bring it to one of the audition nights--Tuesday, January 8th or Wednesday, January 9th. Hope to see you there!

Audition Forms and Information Sheets

We are so excited for our next show!!
With auditions just around the corner, here are the forms you will need to complete and bring to auditions along with a small (wallet-sized) photograph of your child.
There are six documents in total.
Three are information sheets which the parents/guardians of actors need to read and understand: Mandatory Availability Dates, Parent Involvement Information and Parent Responsibilities Information. They give an overview of our process and the responsibilities of parents whose children are cast in the show.
There are three forms to be printed, completed and brought to the audition: Audition Application, Family Emergency Contact Form and Parent Committee Form.
If more than one child from a family is auditioning, only one Family Contact Form and Parent Committee Form is needed per family.
Completion of the forms before arriving at the audition is not required and copies will be available, but actors are called for auditions in the order their completed paperwork is presented to the producer, so doing this beforehand will lessen the amount of time spent waiting during the audition process.
We look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Another wonderful performance!!

After eight weeks of hard work, all the effort was obvious on stage. Well done, everyone!! Alice had a most excellent adventure in Wonderland and managed to make it home in time for her birthday party with all her friends and the delicious cake with the pink icing. Even Dinah was no worse for spending a little time shut up in the dollhouse. Thanks to all who made this latest production a success, from the actors on the stage to the tech crew in the wings and to all the people who volunteered many hours behind the scenes! Bravo!!

Do you know this story?

It's a tale of a journey, encounters with mysterious creatures, interesting tea party conversations, mean leaders and a desire to go home. Hmmmm....could be The Hobbit, the Wizard of Oz or.....the show you can see this weekend....Alice in Wonderland!! Friday at 7pm or Saturday at 2pm!

Final Week!!

It's the final week of rehearsals and the actors are getting really excited to show off their hard work. Don't miss your chance to have an adventure with Alice in Wonderland, this Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm. Advance tickets are available until Wednesday at Artisans and The Venue in Greenville and Edward's Pharmacy in Ayden for $5. Tickets are also available at the door on Friday and Saturday for $7. See in you in Wonderland!!
